IMARC recognises the importance of encouraging the next generation to engage with the mining and resources sector. The NextGen Program is designed to inspire future workforce talent, facilitate career pathways, and promote talent retention within the industry. The 2024 NextGen Program features three impactful initiatives:

NextGen Leaders: A three-day program for over 100 undergraduate, graduate, trainee, and apprentice attendees. It includes conference sessions, networking opportunities, and guided exhibition floor walks.

NextGen Senior: A one-day program for year 9 and year 11/12 students, offering insights into career journeys within the mining and resources sector and featuring interactive activities and guided walks.

NextGen Junior: On 31 October, this program will host over 200 year 5 and 6 students from Sydney-based primary schools, featuring interactive STEM activities and industry role model talks.

Indigenous Participation Program

IMARC 2024 takes place on Gomora, land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. The event acknowledges them as the traditional owners and pays respect to their elders. The conference welcomes back Indigenous Women in Mining and Resources Australia (IWIMRA) as its First Nations partner, alongside other key industry and community groups.

The program includes:

  • First Nations speakers discussing environmental and cultural heritage challenges.
  • Exploration of how mining can boost employment, skills, and economic participation in First Nations communities.
  • Presentation of a unique artwork by IWIMRA Artist Leah Cummins, symbolising the relationship between First Nations communities and the mining sector.

IMARC Gala Dinner – 31 October 2024

The Gala Dinner will once again feature a silent auction for Indigenous artwork created during IMARC, with proceeds going to IWIMRA. The Carly Champion Band, known for their versatile repertoire from the latest hits to old school rock, soul, and blues, will provide the post-dinner entertainment.
