Mentions of advanced materials decreased by 49% in the mining industry in Q1 2022

The global mining industry experienced a 49% drop in company filings mentions of advanced materials in Q1 2022 compared with the previous quarter.

The highest share of this decline was accounted for by Anglo American, with a50% year-on-year decrease, according to GlobalData’s analysis of over 92 mining company filings. 

Notably, advanced materials was one of the most frequently-referenced themes in Q1 2022, ranking highest in terms of mentions, ahead of governance and connectivity, according to GlobalData. 

Of the 50 leading companies in the mining industry, Anglo American had the greatest increase in references for advanced materials in Q1 2022, compared with the previous quarter

GlobalData identified four advanced materials-related sentences in the company's filings - 4 % of all sentences - and an increase of 300% in Q1 2022 compared with Q2 2022. Sandvik’s mentions of advanced materials rose by 300% to four and Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile’s by 100% to three. 

GlobalData’s Company Filings Analytics also applies sentiment weight to reference sentences, based on whether the sentences are positive, negative, or neutral. Starting at 100 in 2020, an index over 100 is more positive. The overall index for advanced materials in Q1 2022 was 123.
