WHAT IS

SORTING?

  • Ore sorting is a mineral concentration process where individual ore particles are separated from the unwanted material based on physical (or chemical) properties.
  • Ore Sorting can be used for:

    - Pre-concentration / waste rejection

    - Ore-type diversion

    - Concentration to product

    - Final recovery of gem stones

  • Sensor-based sorting is the automation of this process

Most ore bodies can be pre-concentrated by the means of sensor-based sorting. On particle base a decision is made, whether its grade is suitabel for the product or if it should be ejected as waste. This process has huge economical benefits for a mineral processing circuit.

Examples are:

  • Reduce haulage costs
  • Reclaim old waste dumps
  • Reduce energy and consumables
  • Reduce size of tailings dams
  • Increase mine lives… and many more

Often industrial minerals do contain certain amounts of contamination from dykes or other forms of waste rock. By removing such contaminants from the main mineral an upgraded product with a higher price tag can be generated.

Examples are:

  • Extended mine life
  • Control about product grade
  • More salable products at higher price

Sensor-based sorting will help you to recover valuable gem stones from a ROM stream. In such applications, STEINERT sorters can recover the valuable stones in different stages of the process. From large gem stone recovery, after a first set of crushing to the final concentrater, STEINERT has the solution for all your needs.

Examples are:

  • Avoid breakage of large stones
  • High efficiency with multiple sensors
  • High capacity
  • Low operating costs
