Copper Intelligence has signed an agreement to acquire the Butembo copper asset in the Democratic Republic of Congo, marking a step in building a US-listed copper exploration company focused on high-grade assets. Located near the Ugandan border, the project offers near-surface potential with existing rail access. Early assays indicate copper grades of up to 18%. The transaction, completed via a reverse takeover, transfers ownership to the US entity, which plans to advance exploration and expand its asset base in the region.

Orion Critical Mineral Consortium has signed a non-binding agreement to acquire a 40% stake in Glencore’s assets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, involving Mutanda Mining and Kamoto Copper Company which have a combined value of around $9bn. The deal would grant Orion CMC board representation and rights to market its share of production, while Glencore retains operational control. The move aligns with US efforts to secure critical mineral supplies. 

Caterpillar has completed the acquisition of Australian mining software company RPMGlobal, expanding its portfolio of mining technology and data-driven solutions. The deal, with undisclosed financial terms, strengthens Caterpillar’s capabilities in mine planning, operations and performance optimisation. By integrating RPMGlobal’s software with its equipment offering, the company aims to deliver more connected and efficient site management tools.

Sandvik has agreed to acquire ThoroughTec Simulation, expanding its capabilities in mining training and simulation technologies. The deal, expected to close in Q2 2026 subject to approvals, will see ThoroughTec integrated into Sandvik’s mining division. Its OEM-agnostic simulators and training systems will complement Sandvik’s digital tools, enabling data-driven operator training programmes designed to improve safety, productivity and equipment performance across mining operations.
