Martin's Air Cannons provide effective solutions for cement plant

A cement plant in the United States faced clinker cooler flow issues, with chunky material clinging to the static cooler grates and curbs despite already having an air cannon system. Material buildup led to 20-foot clogs within a shift, causing kiln disruptions and increased operational costs. Placed near hot, dusty areas, cannons suffered from particulate settlement, reducing their efficacy over time, aggravating the problem.
Martin Engineering specialists were brought in to help find a solution and, after a complete diagnosis, they designed a new configuration to locate the cannons away from the discharge area, on a preexisting platform several meters away. Since the air had to travel further, he specified 5 powerful 150-liter Hurricane Air Cannons to deliver enough pressure to carry the air all the way down the piping system and still pack a serious punch at the end.
Cannons are now set on a 10-minute firing cycle, with one discharging every other minute. The Hurricane’s valve faces outward, opposite the pipe end, and is serviced without removing the tank. The design reduces the amount of time and labor needed to maintain the equipment, and by eliminating the need for heavy lifting, it also improves safety. After five years of constant operation, the results have been better than we ever expected.
