The Challenge of Hoist Cylinder Pins and Their Susceptibility to Seizing

Komatsu 830E & 930E Hoist Cylinder Pin are susceptible to seizing and often result in the need for hot works to lance out the pins. It was reported that a single boilermaker could take between 5-8 hours to remove the 2-pins required to remove one rear suspension cylinder.

This not only results in a deviation from safe work practices but also exposes mine sites and off-site repair teams to risks of fatigue, hearing loss due to extreme noise pollution, and potential injuries from thermal lancing. The consequence extends to prolonged fleet downtime, elevating both maintenance and operational costs.

Unlock Efficiency with Geographe's CPA to Reduce Pin Seizure and Cut Costs

In response, Geographe developed an Enhanced Performance (EP™) Colleted Pin Assembly (CPA) to suit the Rear Suspension of Komatsu 830E and 930E haul trucks.

The CPA incorporates a tapered collet system creating a self-wedging effect between the pin and frame bores. This wedging effect creates an interference fit which significantly reduces the pin seizure. Geographe has also utilised an in-built jacking system within the collet affording a simple procedure to remove the collets when required.

There is no modification required to critical parts of the machine, offering complete interchangeability between Komatsu and Geographe components.

Multi-bolt design ensures collets pull up evenly & securely.

The CPA decreases deviation from safe working procedures.

Eliminates the need for thermal lancing.
