Los Bronces mine
Mine Type: Open-cut
Location: North of Santiago, Chile
Reserves: 11.5 million tonnes of copper
Chile’s Ministry of Environment granted an environmental permit for a $3bn extension of the mine in April this year, enabling Anglo American to mine higher-grade ore from a new underground section of the mine. In addition to its copper reserves, the mine also produces molybdenum.

Location: Vichada, Colombia
Reserves: Unannounced; 72kg of tested ore yielded a rare earth concentration of 68.25%
Auxico Resources Canada’s Minastyc mine in Vichada, Columbia, could move a step closer towards production, as the Colombian Environmental Authority has granted environmental approval to the project.
Tormin project
Tormin mine
Mine Type: Sand mining
Location: North of Cape Town, South Africa
Reserves: 2.7 million tonnes of commodities including zircon and ilmenite
Mineral Commodities (MRC) is planning to increase its stake in Mineral Sands Resources (MSR), which owns the Tormin mineral sands operation in South Africa, to 69%. MRC has so far developed and operated the Tormin project through its 50% stake in MSR.
