Asia-Pacific’s IT hiring activity in mining drops 15.5% in November 2022 

November 2022 saw a decrease of 9.64% in the overall hiring activity when compared with October 2022.

Asia-Pacific witnessed a 15.5% drop in IT hiring activity in the mining industry in November 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard. 

IT jobs accounted for a 4% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in November 2022, registering a decrease of 0.4% over the last three-month average share. 

“Miscellaneous computer occupations” emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 36.2% in November 2022, a 70% rise over the previous month. Database/network administrators and architects came in next, claiming a share of 23.4% in November 2022, marking a 63.3% month-on-month decline. 

In the third place was software and web developers, programmers and testers with a share of 19.2% in November 2022, a 55% drop from October 2022. Computer and information analysts registered a share of 17% in November 2022, a 100% rise over the previous month. 

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 7.7% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s mining industry during November 2022 over previous month. 

BlueScope Steel posted six IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a decline of 45.5% over the previous month, followed by Newcrest Mining with six jobs and a flat growth. The Fortescue Metals Group with five IT jobs and Evolution Mining with four jobs, recorded a 28.57% drop and a 100% rise, respectively, while Glencore recorded a flat growth with three job postings during November 2022. 

Australia commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with an 83% share in November 2022, a 15.2% decrease over October 2022. India featured next with an 8.5% share, down 60% over the previous month. Singapore recorded a 4.3% share, a drop of 33.3% compared with October 2022.
