How Revizto used a game engine to unite mining teams through visualisation tools

Standfirst...

Lead image: Crusher Motor in transparency. Using Revizto to isolate any component of the model, raise an issue, and send it back to the authoring software with the Switchback function to rectify the issue with just a few clicks, enables a streamlined and very efficient workflow. The updated model can then be auto-uploaded back into Revizto.

Founded with a vision to break down traditional communication barriers, Revizto is a global leader in collaborative software solutions, equipping teams with tools for real-time project coordination. Built from the Unity game engine, the platform unites project stakeholders by centralising Building Information Modeling (BIM) data, enabling real-time updates and visual issue tracking across 3D models and 2D plans. This unified source of truth ensures that everyone—regardless of location—can see and resolve issues within the same virtual space, an essential capability for industries requiring time-sensitive, cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Director of Sales ANZ, Charbel Torbey, and Strategic Account Manager for Energy & Resources, Dan Ward, recently spoke with us about how Revizto is helping unite teams in the mining industry.

What are the main features of the Revizto platform, and how does it support the industry’s needs?

Charbel: Mining projects are complex, often requiring coordination across remote sites and involving multiple stakeholders. Revizto centralises project data, offering real-time collaboration and visual issue tracking across 3D models and 2D plans. Its platform integrates with major design, coordination, and BIM tools, making it accessible from both desktop and mobile devices. This functionality allows project stakeholders—from engineers to field workers—to access up-to-date project data wherever they are, even when working across different locations or time zones.

We prioritise collaboration, and by providing a single platform, Revizto ensures everyone is working with consistent information, reducing costly errors and rework. Our visual issue tracking, for example, offers clarity, accountability, and a faster path to issue resolution.

Safety is paramount in the mining industry, where regulatory requirements and environmental risks add layers of complexity. How can Revizto's visualisation tools improve safety, compliance, and documentation in mining projects?

Charbel: With features like issue tracking, documentation, and change management, teams can visually track changes to designs or operations, assessing any safety implications before they become real risks. It makes it easy to log safety protocols and compliance measures, which is crucial for audits and regulatory inspections.

Dan: Revizto also helps ensure that construction plans align with local regulations. Each state has its own legislation, regulations, and terminology for construction practices, and Revizto allows teams the flexibility to document compliance in real time to adhere to these standards. Plus, it tracks compliance with contractual obligations related to construction activities, helping to avoid disputes and ensuring that projects are delivered on time.

Team members can annotate models directly, which fosters clear and specific discussions about safety issues. This proactive approach helps ensure that safety measures are thoroughly documented throughout an asset’s lifecycle, making it easier for teams to stay compliant and focused on what really matters—keeping everyone safe on site.

How might mining teams use Revizto to improve project tracking and cross-discipline collaboration in remote or challenging site conditions?

Charbel: It’s all about real-time collaboration and making it easy to bring in data from different software packages. This means that team members can log, assign, and keep track of tasks right in the 3D environment—very handy for issue tracking and management.

Plus, with mobile accessibility, everyone can stay connected no matter where they are. Revizto also helps teams plan maintenance more effectively, which is crucial. It’s also a fantastic tool for training and onboarding, letting new folks dive into the project and explore it in a virtual space.

One of the standout features is version control, which ensures that everyone is always on the same page with the latest information. This really helps to cut down on miscommunications and keeps the team aligned. Making it quicker and easier for mining teams to respond to whatever challenges come their way is the best way to help in tough conditions.

While relatively new to mining, Revizto has already seen success with a major partner in Thiess. How was that experience?

Dan: Working with Thiess has been an exciting journey for us because it’s given us the chance to really push the capabilities of Revizto in a high-stakes environment. Thiess, as you know, operates on some of the world’s largest and most complex mining projects, so their teams are constantly coordinating across vast distances and with multiple disciplines. With Revizto, they’ve been able to centralise project data, allowing for real-time tracking and easier communication—even when team members are spread across different locations. Our platform has enabled them to minimise rework, keep everyone on the same page, and ultimately streamline their workflows. Thiess is a perfect example of how Revizto can help large-scale mining projects run more efficiently, and we’re thrilled to see the tangible impact it’s had on their operations.

What are Revizto’s long-term goals within the mining industry, and how does the company incorporate industry-specific feedback into its product development?

Dan: Our long-term goal is to enhance stakeholder engagement in every built environment, whether it’s during construction or asset management. Just like with a hospital or skyscraper, the principles we use apply equally to mineral processing plants, outback railway lines, or transport hubs. We want to help teams run more efficient projects that save time and money, ultimately becoming the go-to software for all construction projects in mining.

To achieve this, we prioritise incorporating industry-specific feedback into our product development. Thanks to our foundation on the Unity game engine, we have the agility to make rapid changes and updates, meaning we can quickly implement new features and plugins through APIs based on the needs expressed by our users. By keeping our platform flexible and user-focused, we ensure that Revizto evolves alongside the industry.
