Deal activity by volume related to artificial intelligence decreased by 7% year-on-year in 2022 in the mining industry

Analysis of the key themes driving deal activity reveals that artificial intelligence accounted for 71 mining deals between 2018 and 2022, worth a total value of $8,882m, according to GlobalData’s Deals database covering mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture financing, equity offerings and partnerships.

The $193m venture financing issue by KoBold Metals was the largest disclosed deal in 2022, while the $121m acquisition of Motion Metrics International by The Weir Group was the largest disclosed deal in 2021.

In volume terms, artificial intelligence related deal activity decreased by 7% year-on-year in 2022 and increased by 50% year-on-year in 2021.
