Arcadium Lithium gets shareholder nod for $6.7bn buyout by Rio Tinto
US lithium producer Arcadium Lithium has secured shareholder approval for its acquisition by Rio Tinto in an all-cash transaction valued at around $6.7bn (A$10.8bn). Initially agreed in October, the deal has now secured the green light from both boards and received approval or waivers from antitrust authorities in Australia, Canada, China, the UK and the US. Completion of the acquisition is anticipated in mid-2025, contingent on remaining regulatory clearances and other closing conditions.
Auric Mining plans to acquire Burbanks plant
Auric Mining has announced a conditional agreement to acquire the Burbanks gold processing facility near Coolgardie, Western Australia (WA). The acquisition, subject to due diligence, is set to enhance Auric Mining’s operational capabilities. The company has until 10 February 2025 to complete its due diligence on the transaction, after which a cash payment of A$4.4m ($2.7m) is scheduled for settlement on 15 March 2025. Burbanks is a fully permitted facility, with a capacity of 180,000 tonnes per annum.
Idemitsu increases its stake in Vecco to 51%
Idemitsu has signed an agreement to increase its shareholding in Australian vanadium developer Vecco to 51%. The move marks Idemitsu’s strategic entry into the critical minerals sector, focusing on vanadium supply chain development. The investment, totalling A$75m ($47.2m), aims to support renewable energy initiatives and expand business operations globally. Idemitsu, through its subsidiary Idemitsu Debella, has been investing in Vecco since 2022.
Carnaby Resources to acquire Trekelano deposit
Australian miner NewPeak Metals will acquire the Allaru vanadium project in the Julia Creek vanadium province of north-west Queensland. The project has an inferred JORC resource of 710 million tonnes of vanadium. The company has executed a binding term sheet with the project’s owner AusVan Battery Metals, offering 303,030,303 shares at $0.0165 each, totaling $5m.
