Silver Lake Resources / Red 5 merger finalised

Following approval from Silver Lake Resources’ shareholders in early June, the gold producer’s proposed merger Red 5 was approved by the supreme court of New South Wales. It is due to complete through a scheme of arrangement on 19 June 2024, creating a diversified mid-tier gold company with four mining hubs in tier 1 gold jurisdictions of Western Australia and Ontario. The merged entity, which will be headed by Silver Lake's Luke Tonkin as the managing director and CEO, is estimated to have an annual production capacity of 445,000oz for fiscal year 2024.

Rio Tinto expands aluminium assets

Rio Tinto has announced the acquisition of Sumitomo Chemical Company’s (SCC) 20.64% interest in New Zealand Aluminium Smelters, which will complete its ownership of the facility. Rio Tinto also agreed to purchase SCC’s 2.46% stake in Boyne Smelters, which operates the Boyne Island aluminium smelter in Gladstone, Australia, increasing its interest in the project to 61.85%.

Galileo, MinRes enter farm-in for Norseman lithium rights

Galileo Mining subsidiaries Norseman Resources and Ganymede Resources have signed a farm-in and joint venture agreement with a subsidiary of Mineral Resources (MinRes) to sell 30% of all lithium rights on the Norseman tenements in Western Australia for $7.5m. MinRes will pay an initial $5m to Galileo, with another $2.5m scheduled for payment within one year. The agreement allows MinRes to increase its stake to 55% by solely funding an additional $15m in exploration expenses over the next four years.

Infini bolsters WA uranium foothold with Bellah Bore East

ASX-listed Infini Resources has announced the acquisition of the Bellah Bore East uranium project in Western Australia for an undisclosed sum. With this purchase, Infini Resources consolidated its Yeelirrie North Uranium Project (E 53/2188). The Bellah Bore East deposit is located within prospecting licence P 53/1703 on the western edge of the company’s existing E 53/2188 tenement.
