When it comes to importing or exporting mining machinery, equipment, spare parts and components in Australia, NMT Shipping is one of the top freight forwarders in the industry. By staying informed of logistical challenges, NMT’s clients are fully supported with innovative shipping solutions.

Quotation considerations

RoRo, LoLo, FCL, or LCL - each shipping method comes with different costs based on your timeline. That’s why NMT staff begin by understanding your business and cargo requirements. Whether your shipment needs to be transported as a whole via RoRo, partially disassembled to fit into containers or trailers, or sent as spare parts or components via trailer, container, pallet, or crate, NMT provide tailored solutions. Every shipment includes client consultation, customised planning, and full support to ensure a seamless shipping experience from start to finish!

Transit time and vessel scheduling

Over the past year, NMT clients faced significant challenges due to protected industrial actions, port congestion, and vessel delays. RoRo services, which operate on fixed schedules with limited flexibility, were particularly affected - delays at one port often disrupted subsequent schedules, especially for transshipment, with some vessels being skipped entirely. The high demand during the Christmas 2024 protected industrial actions resulted in long wait times and fewer sea freight options, significantly impacting the shipping industry. As the industry recovers, NMT continues to explore alternative solutions - such as switching between RoRo and containerised shipping to optimise delivery speed and costs. Leveraging their expertise in machinery packing, customs clearance, transportation, quarantine, and inspections, NMT ensures smooth and secure cargo movement while striving for the best possible outcomes for their clients.

Port infrastructure and accessibility

Not all ports are equipped the same - RoRo vessels require specialised ramps, facilities, and sufficiently deep waters to accommodate their 200-metre (or more) length. Port congestion can cause significant delays, often leaving RoRo vessels anchored at sea, waiting for a berth to unload cargo. NMT staff closely monitor port congestion across Australia, keeping clients informed in real time. Their operations team is always prepared to coordinate every logistical step as soon as cargo is safely unloaded (or ready for departure), ensuring a smooth and efficient shipping process.

Safe and secure: Cargo handling

Reliable, certified partnerships ensure seamless transportation, lifting, and loading. NMT offices collaborate globally to coordinate every import and export, with qualified personnel handling cargo with care. Need your cargo collected for export? Consider it done. Delivered from the vessel to your yard or site? NMT have it covered. Oversized, irregularly shaped, or heavy cargo? That’s their specialty!

Compliance and regulation

NMT’s certified Australian Customs Brokers manage all customs clearance, streamlining paperwork processing with their industry expertise and up-to-date knowledge of the latest regulations. Some countries enforce complex import requirements - including safety standards, biosecurity measures, and tariffs - which can lead to delays or even cargo rejections. NMT ensures compliance, minimising risks and keeping shipments on track.
