Lundin Gold starts production at Fruta del Norte project in Ecuador

Mining firm Lundin Gold has inaugurated its Fruta del Norte gold mine in the Ecuadorean region and reported the commencement of production at the mine site. Lundin has already produced the first doré bar from the gravity circuit of the mine, following the receipt of the last two permits required to move into first gold production.

BlackEarth Minerals begins trial project in Madagascar

Australian mining company BlackEarth Minerals has announced the launch of a large-scale mining pilot programme at Maniry in southern Madagascar. The project has already shipped an initial 250kg of graphite to Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy’s (BGRIMM) facility in China, and is set to excavate an additional 60 tonnes of bulk material.

BOD recovers first diamonds from South African Marsfontein mine

Exploration and project development company Botswana Diamonds (BOD) has recovered first diamonds from its Marsfontein mine in South Africa. The diamonds were recovered from plant commissioning activities on the site.

Semafo suspends operations at Boungou mine in Burkina Faso

Gold miner Semafo has announced the suspension of operations will continue at its Boungou mine in Burkina Faso until security is fully assured. The mine has remained closed after an attack on a convoy of the Canadian miner’s workers left 39 dead.
