How Nivek Industries is revolutionising mining safety

Standfirst...

Designed by fitters, for fitters, Nivek Industries revolutionised heavy industry safety with their debut product, TED (Tracked Elevating Device).

From concept to completion, Nivek Industries delivers innovative products and tailor-made solutions focused on ensuring mining industry personnel finish every shift safely. Working to not only save lives, the Australian-based company continually focuses on producing specialised equipment to better the general health and wellbeing of heavy industry workers worldwide.

Nivek Industries was established in 2011 after the company’s founder, Kevin Cant, narrowly escaped a serious workplace injury while removing a belly plate from a bulldozer. The incident inspired the company’s debut piece of specialised equipment called TED; the world’s first remote-controlled tracked elevating device. This industry innovation removed the need for manual handling while dismantling heavy machinery components, helping to reduce hazardous practices and increase personnel safety. After being adopted at mining and quarry sites across Australia and around the world, the company followed up with a range of additional attachments for TED to help further mitigate the dangers to fitters completing maintenance jobs.

“At Nivek, we’re committed to developing innovative and safe products for mining and heavy industry that enhance workplace safety, efficiency and productivity,” explains Nivek’s General Manager, Derrick Cant.

“A good deal of our success is that we listen to the feedback of our mining clients and take into account their specific requirements.”

In keeping with this commitment and spirit of collaboration, Nivek followed up with their next innovative design, the Lift Assist 40 (LA-40), in 2019. Nominated for the Excellence in Mine Safety category at the Australian Mining Prospect Awards, the LA-40 was developed to reduce the need for worker’s to manually handle heavy tooling, such as rattle guns and impact drivers. As well as giving workers greater control during jobs, Nivek’s second solution helped lower the risk of experiencing fatigue and musculoskeletal injuries. The LA-40 is also compatible with TED and a mobile stand that the company is currently in the process of producing.

While all their equipment is designed and made in Australia using top quality parts, local suppliers and labourers, Nivek ships their highly sought after innovations across the world.

After several years of TED’s successful adoption throughout the mining, rail and civic construction sectors, Nivek decided it was time to take things up a level and released the aptly named Big TED. The larger and more potent bigger brother of their initial product, Big TED offers an increased lifting capacity while still maintaining a low profile and having the same manoeuvrability as it’s little brother.

Together, TED and Big TED have had a significant impact on eliminating worksite hazards and serious injuries.

Pushing forward with their ever evolving equipment range, the latest Nivek creation to hit the market and continue propelling their mission to create safer and more efficient workplaces, is BOB (Beast of Burden). With a 0.5, 1.5 and 5 tonne models, their newest range of low-profile heavy-load carriers offers an even tougher solution to reducing workplace risks. With wireless control, all-terrain design and the power to travel far greater distances than the TED models, Nivek’s equipment range offers solutions for even the more extreme environmental and operational conditions.

Designed by fitters, for fitters, the company’s off-the-shelf solutions have undoubtedly made a significant impact on helping to eliminate some of the most common hazardous practices and workplace injuries in heavy industry, while also reducing downtime and increasing productivity. Not only does Nivek deliver exceptional safety equipment, the company ensures the longevity and success of their equipment by offering on-site training or training packages, as well as continual after sales support and servicing on all of their products and parts.

“With the release of Big TED, the BOB range and, in the not too distant future, our electric mini-loader called REX, Nivek can offer a far wider range of workable solutions to customer requirements,” says Cant.

“The benefit this brings to the customer is that we already have a platform designed and proven. We can simply design and manufacture a specialised attachment, a far quicker and cost effective solution, and by being modular, the customer can utilise the base frame for other tasks.”

Nivek is currently looking to expand their distributor network across Eastern USA, Brazil, Mexico and other Central American countries. By increasing their current network, Nivek aims to improve the support of their products in these regions and enhance the useability and operational efficiency of their innovations for all heavy industry personnel.
