ADT Guard: more than security for mine sites

ADT Security, trusted technology partner to the Australian mining supply chain, has delivered a major multisite CCTV and environmental monitoring rollout for Hastings Deering Australia, a leading supplier of CAT machinery and equipment.

ADT Security’s live video monitoring solution is proving its adaptability in the Australian mining industry, as application for the solution expands from traditional site security support, to improving monitoring operations across remote, unmanned and isolated sites such as stockpiles and tailing dams.

Mining and Infrastructure Manager for ADT Security, Tim Wilson explains the solution was shaped from learnings of more than 20 years supplying Australian mines with integrated site security solutions.

“Remote mine sites depend on assets that keep production moving,” Mr Wilson said. “A stalled conveyor, an unstable stockpile or an unexpected change at a tailings dam can disrupt operations and expose communities to risk.

“ADT Guard live video monitoring combines AI video analytics with human verification to enable site monitoring at even the most remote locations, supplementing mine site security with actionable intelligence to support both asset protection and operational awareness,” he said.

Configured for the site and its requirements, cameras can help identify visible signs of conveyor blockages, spillage, belt misalignment and unexpected stoppages. Analytics applied to stockpiles can detect changes in shape, potential slumping and violations to restricted areas, while solar powered cameras overlooking dams can support observation of water levels, visible seepage and unauthorised access.

These applications provide an additional layer of oversight alongside established inspections, sensors and engineering controls.

“These applications provide an additional layer of oversight alongside established inspections, sensors and engineering controls,” Mr Wilson explained.

When analytics flag an event, trained ADT monitoring operators review live footage, assess what is visible and notify site personnel. Clear, verified information helps teams decide whether an inspection, maintenance response or escalation is required.

The same infrastructure also supports Time-Lapse Video Patrol. Each hour of scheduled camera patrols is condensed into 30 seconds so vast areas can be surveyed more efficiently. Fuel stores, copper, equipment compounds and other exposed assets can receive attention without requiring a guard to be physically present at every location. For mining operations spread across distances, this approach extends coverage and helps direct on-site resources where they are needed most.

The value lies in connecting detection with a human response. Cameras provide visibility, analytics draw attention to potential problems, and operators help turn an alert into useful information for site security teams.

With ADT Guard, mine sites can gain more from their security investment: stronger protection, greater operational awareness and support for timely, informed decisions.
