In an increasingly complex mining sector facing intensifying pressure, a partner who delivers real, measurable value is essential.

Backed by over a century of innovation, seven world‑class R&D centres, and extensive experience working directly with mining companies and original equipment manufacturers, Castrol brings unmatched leadership and operational understanding to the sector.

This experience underpins a suite of solutions that have been built specifically for the realities of modern mining. Castrol Intelligent Lubrication Solutions combine smart technologies, advanced lubricants and expert services into a single, integrated and adaptable offer designed to drive performance, reliability and protect critical assets.

Smart technology enhancing reliability

As mining operations become more automated, data‑driven and focused on safety and sustainability, expectations of equipment and maintenance systems have risen sharply. Automation is strengthening reliability and reducing manual handling, particularly in remote and hard‑to‑reach locations where intervention can be high‑effort and high‑risk.

The Castrol single point lubrication offer, delivered in partnership with Memolub, provides automated, reliable grease lubrication for critical components in demanding fixed‑plant environments. With programmable discharge rates and a patented pump design, the system enhances worker safety, improves operational simplicity and ensures consistent, precise lubrication for single bearings through to complex lubrication grids.

But automation alone isn’t enough. Visibility and verification are essential to turn previously manual tasks into data‑driven reliability advantages. Castrol’s smart visibility tools provide real‑time oversight across lubrication and inventory systems, helping operations identify issues early, reduce human error and maintain consistent performance.

GreaseBoss adds intelligent oversight to lubrication systems, giving mining operations visibility over manual and automatic greasing. By identifying issues such as under‑delivery, injector failures and autolube misconfigurations before they escalate, it helps prevent breakdowns, extend component life and significantly reduce unplanned downtime.

Operating under the same visibility principle, Castrol’s Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) solution, Smart Tank +, simplifies stock management through Castrol‑led ordering, replenishment and 24/7 automated precision tank monitoring. This eliminates the need for manual stock checks, removes the potential for human error, improves forecasting and reduces the risk of stockouts.

Smart systems together with thoughtful lubricant choices create a powerful combination. In an industry defined by scale, relentless operational demands, and harsh conditions where mining equipment is pushed to its limits, products that enhance reliability, performance and efficiency make a measurable difference.

Advanced lubricants proven under extreme loads and conditions

Castrol VECTON Long Drain 15W‑40 CK‑4/E9 is engineered for durability, stability and long service life. Proven for more than 25 years in some of Australia’s toughest environments, it fights oil breakdown by combatting oxidation and deposits, neutralises harmful acids, controls aeration, and resists viscosity loss through shear.

The high-performance engine oil can double or even triple OEM drain intervals depending on the application and, for assets under pressure to deliver, the gains are tangible. At double the interval, it has been proven to deliver 94% better viscosity control, 60% better soot control, 58% lower wear metal levels, and 51% stronger acid neutralisation than industry standards for CK‑4 oils.

This performance translates directly into longer component life, fewer unplanned stoppages and stable engine performance across extended duty cycles. It also reduces spending on oil, filters, parts and waste removal; cuts maintenance hours; and limits human interactions with equipment, supporting safer, leaner and more efficient operations.

In surface mining conditions, high‑load equipment components such as haul truck wheel motors place extreme mechanical stress on lubrication systems, making friction control and wear protection essential. Castrol Optigear Synthetic PD 680 ES meets this need, with Plastic Deformation (PD) technology that micro‑smooths gear surfaces, reduces friction and increases load‑bearing capacity for cooler running temperatures, improved energy efficiency and longer component life.

Castrol Plastic Deformation technology for improved energy efficiency and longer component life.

Customer fleets of Komatsu 930‑E haul trucks switching to this product have seen wear in gear sets fall by up to 44%, drain intervals extend to 6,000 hours, wheel motor life rise by 25% – from 24,000 to 30,000 hours – and wheel motor temperatures drop by 10°C.

With mine-site temperature extremes testing year‑round reliability, making the right grease choices are also vital. Proven through two decades of in-field performance and recognised as a benchmark by equipment manufacturers and mine-site operators, Castrol Mine Grease is built for Australia’s changing conditions. Delivering reliable pumpability and vent performance from 0 to 50°C, its versatility makes it a universal option across ground‑engaging tools, ancillary equipment and large excavators, providing outstanding protection and structural stability while extending pin and bush life.

Expert services delivering measurable value

While smart systems and advanced product technologies are fundamental, true operational advantage comes from pairing these innovative solutions with the expertise needed to apply them effectively. Castrol’s technical specialists turn lubrication technology into measurable value, drawing on decades of hands‑on experience with mining maintenance and reliability teams to identify improvements, resolve issues quickly and support decision‑making.

That value is exemplified by Castrol Optival: a verification system that identifies efficiencies across productivity, reliability, safety, sustainability, supply and account management. The program has generated more than $150 million in continuous improvement projects for Australian mining operations.

The operational gains enabled by Castrol’s expert team create an important advantage in a sector operating at the heart of infrastructure, economic security and the energy transition.

With future‑ready solutions that enhance efficiency, strengthen performance and keep operations moving, partnering with Castrol delivers distinct, strategic and enduring value for mining operations.
