MANAGE YOUR DUST, CONTROL THE RISKS

Conveyor loading zones and discharge points are prime sources for the creation and release of airborne dust. This fugitive dust causes serious problems not only to its production due to the waste of material, but also puts its collaborators at risk – such as dust igniting and causing an explosion, or the health issues that can result from dust inhalation.

There are a variety of systems to control airborne dust that can be installed at conveyor loading and unloading zones, but choosing the ideal one will depend on a number of factors, including the nature of the material carried, the height of drop onto the belt, and the speeds and angles of unloading and loading belts.

Martin® manufactures a wide range of transfer point options specifically engineered to stabilize the belt and seal it at the skirtboard, preventing dust from escaping and returning it back to the material flow.

Keep it sealed!

Quality skirting is one of our specialties. Through efficient sealing, fugitive material will be contained, enhancing your productivity and safety.

ApronSeal features the flexibility and performance that ensures dust containment. With different models, it is the ideal solution to prevent dust dispersion.

Martin® ApronSeal™ Single Skirting is a dual sealing system that prevents spillage where the primary seal is clamped to the chute wall with the self-adjusting secondary laying outward to create an effective dust seal that is out of the material flow. Also available in Heavy Duty (HD), the equipment provides effective sealing on higher speed belts and offers a dual sealing system in a one-piece construction for ease of installation.

Martin® ApronSeal™ Double Skirting also provides dual-seal efficiency with a single, one-piece sealing strip for any troughing angle to prevent the escape of fines and dust, but it uses a patented design that features a reversible elastomer strip to provide a second wear life. Also available in Heavy Duty (HD).

Boost your dust containment

Conventional wear liners have historically been installed inside the chute, with only the skirt seal located on the outside, but the External Wear Liner from Martin® is placed on the outside, improving skirtboard sealing and preventing spillage.

The result is excellent performance with fewer labor hours and a lower cost of ownership.

Martin Engineering designers came up with the idea of raising the chute work about 4” above the belt, out of the way of the material, then putting the wear liner on the outside. Using this approach, the material still hits the liner and doesn’t damage the chute.

An external liner can be installed and adjusted faster and easier, without the need for a grinder or torch, through the use of special mounting tabs. Clips for bolting the liner are initially welded in place, but do not require removal when the liner wears out. Since the work is done from the outside, without any grinding sparks or torch flame, the hazard of explosive dust from tool usage is greatly reduced.

Let our clients speak for us

A Coal-Fired power Plant in the US wanted to increase the safety by limiting dust and spillage from one of its principal conveyors and reduce clean-up and maintenance time, allowing critical manpower to be utilized elsewhere and improve plant efficiency.

To address the situation, Martin supplied and installed a number of upgraded components, including Martin® Double ApronSeal™ Skirting. The improvement was immediate.

No question the system has paid for itself. We used to spend a lot of time making adjustments and repairs, but since the install, the system has been essentially maintenance-free.” said Material Handling Supervisor.
