The Australian mining industry’s overall hiring decreased by 1.01% in March 2022 when compared with February 2022. Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.42% share in March 2022, recording an increase of 0.38% over the last three-month average share. 

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.39% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry in March 2022. These include: 

1. Software and web developers, programmers and testers recorded a share of 40.32% in March 2022, registering a 25% growth over the previous month. 

2. Database and network administrators and architects claimed a 25.81% share, a decrease of 15.79% over the previous month. 

3. Miscellaneous computer occupations held a share of 16.13%, registering a 25% rise from February 2022. 

4. Computer support specialists captured a share of 11.29%, down 22.22% over the previous month. 

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 36.67% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry during March 2022 over February 2022. 

BHP posted 12 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a rise of 100% over the previous month, followed by Evolution Mining with nine jobs and a 50% growth. Gold Fields, with seven IT jobs, recorded a 12.5% decline, while Rio Tinto recorded an increase of 200%, with 6 job postings during March 2022. 

Junior-level jobs held a share of 66.13%, down by 12.77% from February 2022. Mid-level positions recorded a 20.97% share, registered an increase of 44.44% compared with the previous month. In third place was entry-level job ads with a 12.9% share, up 33.33% over February 2022.
