Machinery such as load haul dumpers are the workhorses of the underground mining industry, but their operation and maintenance present significant health and safety risks. Soto, with its track record of working with mining operations to design, build,and refineequipment, machinery and processes, has developed two outstanding solutions that solve critical problems.
SWIFTA Wheel Fitting Unit
The SWIFTA Wheel Fitting Unit is a hydraulic wheel handler that secures and braces the heavy wheel during transportation and fitting of solid-filled tyres and wheels, each weighing about 1 tonne, on load haul dumpers and shuttle cars. The driver operates the SWIFTA from a hydraulic control panel, out of the crush zone. The unit grips the wheel and be raised, rotated, and side-shifted to complete the change, eliminating the risks that come with manual handling, as well as making the process more efficient.
The Mine Tow Hitch
The SOTO Mine Tow Hitch is a rigid connection for towing heavy shuttle cars or other types of mining machinery. Limited room and poor visibility create significant risks to personnel and machinery during towing operations and using chains or drawbars do not provide adequate control. Soto, in partnership with Centennial Coal Myuna, developed the tow hitch, which provides a rigid, safety-rated connection that increases control of turning, tilt, and deviation during towing operations. The 50-tonne rated tow hitch is improving health and safety outcomes and operational efficiency.
